A Marriage of Poetry and Food 8 - 'Invisible Threads'

u ġejt iżżurni
you came to visit

fir-rokna fejn
ħallejtni
in the corner  in which you left me

nitqalleb u nitkebbeb
tossing and turning

fil-kotba tal-passat
 in books from my past"

God gave you and God took from you
and the drums kept on beating
every day it’s the same

on automatic
you keep loving
you keep praying
you keep getting angry
you keep crying
you keep walking
always the same

telgħet u niżlet
sunrise and sunset

għadni nistenniek
I’m still waiting for you

iggranfata bħal gremxula mal-blat
like a lizard clutching onto rocks

lanqas kelma, lanqas nofs ħarsa
not a word, not even half a glance in my direction

aħseb u ara tbissima
let alone a smile!

l-arloġġ biss baqa’ ħaj
the clock keeps on ticking

hu biss iċċaqlaq
it’s the only thing that moved on

il-ħin ma ħafirx
and the only thing that did not forgive
